Asbestos is a hazardous waste that must be disposed of correctly

Asbestos waste can only be disposed of at approved waste disposal sites and incorrect disposal can result in fines or prosecution. There are specific requirements under the Asbestos Code of Practice that should be followed in terms of the containment and transportation of asbestos waste. When you are handling asbestos, you need to follow basic health and safety protocols.

Some asbestos containing materials are best handled by experienced and licensed removalists. If the material is large in volume or requires removal from a site, building or from plant or equipment, we would recommend engaging our services to manage the entire process on your behalf.

Our Asbestos Collection Service

ATL will no longer accept asbestos drop-offs at our warehouse in East Tamaki.

Alternatively, we are offering a collection service for the Auckland Region from Albany to Pukekohe, Kumeu to Maraetai.

  1. Purchase and collect a Hazibag from a retailer near you OR enough 200 micron polythene to wrap your waste in.
  2. Complete your removal works, ensuring that you are aware of your responsibilities, as set out here by WorkSafe NZ.
  3. Get in touch with us to arrange a collection of your asbestos waste.
  4. Pay a final invoice within 7 days.

All waste, including disposable (single-use) masks and coveralls, cloths and plastic sheets should be double-bagged in heavy-duty plastic bags or 200 micron polythene. Twist the top of the bags tightly, fold the necks over (a ‘gooseneck twist’) and seal with adhesive tape so that the contents are fully enclosed. Clearly mark the outer bag as asbestos waste.

If you don't feel comfortable wrapping your own Asbestos Waste, please get in touch; we would be happy to come out to your property and do that for you.

If you are in another part of New Zealand and would like information about other services we offer please contact us.
